Only two international airports in the state handle most of the traffic. One is the Bengaluru international airport (also called Kempegowda International Airport) or KIAL. IATA Code is BLR and ICAO code is VOBL. The other airport is Mangalore (Mangaluru) international airport. The IATA code for Mangaluru airport is IXE and ICAO code is VOML.

Bengaluru international airport is located at Devanahalli which is 46km away from Bangalore. It takes nearly an hour to travel from the city to the airport due to the growing traffic. Bangalore has two terminals to handle the cargo. The terminal operated by Menzies Aviation Bobba Pvt. Ltd. handles about 150,000 metric tons of cargo and the other one operated by Air India SATS Joint Venture consortium handles 200,000 metric tons of cargo.
  
Mangalore international airport is located at Kenjar, Bajpe on the outskirts of Mangalore city. It takes just 20 minutes to reach the airport. It is 9km away from the city. The airport can handle 100 tonnes of cargo. Kollur to Mangalore airport distance is 127km which is two and half hours journey. Udupi to airport takes one hour and 52km by the shortest route national highway no.66.

Belgaum airport is located on Belagum-Bagalkote road, Sambra, Pincode -591 124. It is just 15km (9miles) away from Belgaum. Time taken: 30 minutes to reach the place.

Hubli-Dharwad or Hubli airport is located on Gokul road, Pincode – 580 030. It is just 16km from Hubli if traveled on national highway no. 73. It is 22km from Hubli if traveled on national highway no.63.

Mysore airport is located at Mandakalli. It is 10km from Mysore if traveled on the national highway no.212 which is Mysore - Kozhikode - Kollegal highway. It takes 20 minutes to reach the airport.

Gulabarga airport will be opened to public on July 2013. It is located at Srinivas Saradagi village15km from the city.

Shimoga airport will also be opened to public on July 2013. It is located at Sogane village, 9km (6 miles) from Shimoga and 8 (5 miles) from Bhadravathi.

Raichur airport is located 10km from Raichur. It takes 15-20 minutes to travel from the city. It is yet to be developed to the standards of a minor airport. Raichur is very close to Andhra Pradesh border. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport of Shamshabad, Hyderabad, Pincode – 501218 (Andhra Pradesh state) is 195km away and by Kurnool road it is 257km from Raichur.

Jindal Vijayayanagar airport or Vidyanagar airport is a private airport belonging to Jindal South West Steels located at Toranagallu in Sandur taluk of Bellary district, Karnataka. Domestic flights operating from this place serve Bellary, Hampi and Hospet. It is 336km from Bangalore.

Agatti airport, Lakshadweep Islands (Kochin, Kerala state government permission is needed) are located 144 nautical miles from Mangalore by sea. There are no direct flights from Mangalore. Cruise ships take14 hours to reach Kadmatt island from Mangalore. It takes one and half hours to reach Lakshadweep by flight from Kochi in Kerala state. Shahabad airport in Gulbarga is a private airstrip located 27km from Gulbarga. It is rarely used for landing planes.
